Yogoman hails from Planet Yog, where vibrant and nonsensical dancing is the way of the walk. Jordan Rain of Bellingham, WA took the name Yogoman as his DJ moniker in 1998, as a way to turn the average Northwest reclusive and introspective sensibility outward. Beginning with an eclectic range of musical genres from soul to punk, DJ Yogoman found a love for Jamaican music, with its playful, laid-back, yet intense, and steadily danceable rhythms. Yogoman also recognized Jamaica’s music as being friendly to all ages and backgrounds of humans.
With his background as a DJ, musician, and show promoter in the NW underground/all-ages music scene, Rain formed Yogoman Burning Band (YBB) in 2006. Though YBB has incorporated as many as 8 members at one time, they are currently a 4 piece dance band, comprised of the core members: Jordan Rain on Drums and Lead Vocals, Norah McLaughlin on Bass and Vocals, Mars Lindgren on Trombone and Vocals, and Thomas Akhiro Deakin on Saxophone and Vocals. YBB’s latest sound showcases vocals and horns over a prominent drum and bass foundation building on inspiration from Jamaican, New Orleans Brass, Hip Hop, Soul, and early R&B music.
YBB has won the heart of the northwest corner populace by taking awards for Best Band by Cascadia Weekly for the last 2 years, and Best Booty Shakin’ Music from What’s Up Music Magazine for the past 4 years. YBB has toured with Iron and Wine, and shared the stage with RJD2, Pato Banton, the Cave Singers, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Blue Scholars, Heliosequence, and Clinton Fearon. YBB is building a strong name by regularly touring the West coast, and growing outward from there.

Jordan Rain/Yogoman (Drums/Lead and Backing Vocals)- has been playing live music and putting on shows in the Pacific Northwest for the last 17 years. Having participated heavily in Underground/All-ages music, and djing, specializing in Jamaican records for the last decade, Rain has formed a unique mix of these two energies through Yogoman Burning Band, aiming to connect with people of all-ages through vibrant music and dance.
Norah McLaughlin (Bass/Lead and Backing Vocals)- having developed her bass and vocals skills with the rhythmic history of being a dancer of Flamenco and Irish Step, Norah has become the foundation of Yogoman Burning Band with her rock-solid timing and smooth and soulful vocals. Rain and McLaughlin played together formerly in a Bellingham Soul/Doo-wop group called Alamo Social Club that dissolved around 2005, but that gave them both training at being instrumentalists and vocalists simultaneously.
Thomas Akihiro Deakin (Saxophone and Backing Vocals)- A kindred schoolmate of Jordan's from Fairhaven College, Thomas' high energy and sincere approach to music makes him easily one of the funnest Saxophone players to watch and listen to. Deakin has also recently become part of the vocal fabric of the group by singing harmony vocals and recently adding his lyrical debut on the band's new song Invitation (Don't Send Me).
Mars Lindgren (Trombone and Vocals)- Hailing originally from Olympia, WA, Mars like the planet, is truly from another world. With a rich history of playing in premier Northwest Ska and Funk bands, coupled with a music degree comprising Jazz and Classical training, Mars is without a doubt one of the finest trombone players in the Northwest. Now a part of the YBB vocal harmonies, Mars will take you away from it all with a smile on your face.

Hello friends and fans of Yogoman Burning Band. This is the Current Events page, so you know what projects we're up to.
Booking/Mgmt./Promotional Team: YBB is seeking the right fit for a booking, management, and/or promotional team to take us where we want to go: reaching larger audiences nationally and touring the world over. We are open to recommendations, and if you are a booking, management, or promotional person and would like to speak with us, please contact us through yogomandomino@yahoo.com
Recordings: October of 2010, we recorded our third full-length record, Beam Me Up! with Sergio Rios of the Los Angeles based funk ensemble, ORGONE. In my opinion this is our best sounding record to date. Recorded as a six piece, Beam Me Up! features our friends, Robert Sarazin Blake on the guitar, and Joel Ricci a.k.a. Lucky Brown on the trumpet. Beam Me Up! will be self-released in the fall of 2010, unless we find an appropriate label to press and distribute it to a wider audience. If you are an interested label please reach us at: yogomandomino@yahoo.com
Invitation (Don't Send Me), Little Francisco Cup, and What's There in Space are from the Beam Me Up! album. These songs are featured on our music player.
We have sold out of our second pressing of our debut/self-titled/Red Album, as well as our 7" 45rpm single of Pass The O & Dragon Bus on York Records from our first release. I am currently in the process of re-mastering our debut/self-titled c.d. (the Red Album) before re-releasing that c.d. I will also be looking for a label or financier to help us re-release the Red album and our second album, City Of Subdued Excitement, on vinyl LP format with a digital download card included. The Red Album and City Of Subdued Excitement can be purchased digitally and previewed on iTunes, Amazon, and Emusic.
Touring: We will be touring the Western States- ID, MT, WY, UT, CO, NM, AZ and the West Coast this October 2010. We're also planning a Winter trip to Hawaii, so let us know if you have any musical connections over there. Stay tuned to the Yogo-Calendar page on this site for specifics on upcoming events.
