ABOUT YBB

Yogoman hails from the planet Yog, where its inhabitants create ridiculous, quirky, and uninhibited dance moves on the regular. Yogoman landed in the Pacific Northwest finding a willing human vessel through Washington State's own Jordan Rain, currently a Bellingham restident. Rain formed Yogoman Burning Band (YBB) in 2006 to fire up the often subdued and dark corner of the USA, lighting up crowds of all-ages and taking it to the streets with their infectious and engaging ska/soul brass band style.

Raised in the Jet City, Rain came up through Seattle's underground all-ages music scene in the 90's which he participated in as a musician and booked house concerts.
Being a generally intimate climate for experiencing music and culture, the Do It Yourself/all-ages music scene tends to instill a value of removing barriers between audience, entertainers and the industry, making it a community process, which Rain has taken with him to Yogoman Burning Band.  YBB invites their audiences/fans/friends to engage with their music through dance and personal connection.

YBB has toured with Iron and Wine, collaborated/improvised live with Pato Banton, Junior Reid, Geologic of the Blue Scholars, Winstrong, and many independent M.C.'s and instrumentalists, while sharing the stage with Jamaica's legendary Skatalites, Clinton Fearon (of the Gladiators), Camper Van Beethoven, RJD2, the Cave Singers, Helio Sequence, Dengue Fever and Orgone. YBB has built a strong name for themselves down the West Coast USA, and becoming internationally recognized for their unique musical experience.

PLAYERS

Jordan Rain/Yogoman - Drums and Lead Vocal

Jordan Rain has been playing live music and putting on shows in the Pacific Northwest since 1993. Grown on Classic Rock, Soul and Hip-hop, while having toured nationally in the Underground/All-Ages music scene (punk/hardcore/noise/indie rock, etc.), later DJing specializing in Jamaican music (since 2000), as well as developing a strong appreciation and mix of African, Soul and New Orleans Music, Rain has incorporated a unique mix of these musical forms while conjuring new sonic realms in the highly danceable Yogoman Burning Band sound.

Aiming to connect with people of all-ages and backgrounds through vibrant dance music, Yogo is building off the rhythmic foundation coupled with his innate sense of harmony.  From beats to melodies to lyrics, Rain communicates primarily with feeling and kinetics along with his voice from the drum set to other YBB players and audience simultaneously, making each performance a new experience.

Michael Rain - Bass Guitar & Vocals
Michael Rain, Jordan Rain's father, has been playing music in the Seattle area since the late 70's in various original and cover bands.  Most notably Mike played bass, sang lead vocal and was responsible for the majority of the songwriting in his original group called The CoreThe Core also featured Floyd Rose on guitar, who is the inventor of the Floyd Rose Locking Tremolo, first made famous by Eddie Van Halen.  The Core's sound spawned out of what is now considered "classic rock," but featuring a dirty and harder edged sound with elements of heavy metal and what would now be considered "grunge" music, over a decade before that genre was dubbed and came to light.

Mike brings a vibrant, and explosive element to YBB.  It is undoubtably a special feature to have a father/son - drum/bass combo with the familial blending of the vocals, unifying YBB's sound in a unique way.

Mars Lindgren - Trombone, Vocals and Percussion
Hailing originally from Olympia, WA, Mars like the planet, is truly from another world. With a rich history of playing in premier Northwest Ska, Funk and Latin bands such as Engine 54, La Push/Lucky Brown, and Yambique, coupled with a music degree comprising Jazz and Classical training, Mars is without a doubt one of the finest trombone players in the Northwest!  In addition Mars is currently singing vocal harmonies, shaking the tamborine, and clocking the woodblock for YBB percussion.

Mars' tone ranges from sweet to ripping and he's not afraid to use the plunger.  He is also an excellent chef, does a great job doing sound for the band when necessary, and is one of the sweetest beings you'll ever meet.  Mars will take you away!

Amanda Rhine- Saxophone & Vocals
Amanda began playing music as a small child, learning by recording songs off the radio to cassette and teaching them to herself on keyboard.  She worked her way through the school system of band and choir, and graduated college with a degree in Music.  Her main instrument is Clarinet (which may be employed in YBB), but has always had an affinity for the saxophone.

In Amanda's words- "The opportunity to play for YBB is dream. I never imagined in my wildest that I would ever play in the most esteemed band in Bellingham. This is the first time I’ve ever played in a regularly performing band, and am excited to work with an interdependent group of musicians. I look forward to developing and finding my sound--both vocally and instrumentally--through a new approach to music. I guess I’ve always known deep down that I wanted to make music for a living, but never believed it could be a reality. I’m just incredibly grateful to have this opportunity."

Rain/Yogoman noticed and recalled Rhine's modest, yet choice selection of notes and delivery in a jazz improv class they had together in 2007.  Also recalling friendly demeanor, and bright potential as a player, is what led to Rain ask her to join YBB in late 2011, believing it is always healthy to keep a fresh element amongst seasoned players.

Nelson Bell - Tuba/Sousaphone, Trombone, & Percussion

Nelson has been performing music in the greater Seattle area for the last 13 years and toured the continental United States and parts of Canada with Reptet. He is a graduate of the University of Washington school of music and currently teaching at Music Works Northwest. Nelson has been involved with numerous groups throughout the years, and also has extensive experience in the studio recording for other bands, movie soundtracks, and video game soundtracks. His favorite color is blue, but black and green are close runner-ups!

Nelson is also one of the Pacific Northwest's finest trombone players from the same hometown as Mars; Olympia, WA.  Nelson and Mars were friends growing up together in Olympia, attended the same High School and played in a Ska Punk band called The Jerks during the 90's, giving also the horn section a family element.

Nelson is without a doubt a professional with a strong style and a big musical presence that comes with his horn expertise. We are grateful to have Mr. Bell as a part of the YBB horns, thankful for the stationary, dancing and Marching accessibility he brings aboard.
