YOGOMAN's Rocksteady Revuew Starring Reggae Legend WInston Jarrett in Arcata, CA

Humbrews, 856 10th St., Arcata, CA

Yogoman's Rocksteady Revue starring Studio One Reggae Legend Winston Jarrett!

Long-time Reggae Selector/Deejay and lead singing drummer Jordan Rain/YOGOMAN, with his 6 piece Burning Band, will be backing 76 year old Jamaican Reggae Legend Winston Jarrett and also playing a live set of YOGOMAN music to remind America of one of the coolest and most danceable genres of all time: Rocksteady. Rain has been a live Deejay/Selector of Jamaican tunes from his Bellingham home base for nearly 20 years, keeping Jamaica’s foundation music alive and listenable to the public, while leading his own band which has been heavily inspired by that music. YOGOMAN is a primarily original live group who’s music is known for their inspirational, celebratory qualities, while being well received by fans of all-ages.

At 76 years old, Winston Jarrett, is the wise, well-traveled, and kind Reggae Godfather who is still singing strong as one of the forefathers of the Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae from Jamaica. This Revue will center around the Rocksteady genre that existed between 1966-68 in Jamaica after Ska and just before Reggae. Most people do not get to hear Rocksteady in a live setting, but this particular genre is akin to American Soul music in the musicianship, with lush harmonies, elements of Jazz, and other African influences such as Jamiacan Mento (Jamaican Calypso). Rocksteady tunes are the most versioned/sampled in Jamaican culture and are the birthplace of Reggae.

Growing up in the Jones Town area of Kingston, Jamaica, Winston took his love of music and signed on to Rocksteady superstar Alton "Mr. Soul" Ellis' backing band, The Flames, in the late 1960’s. You can hear his rich vocals on such classic hits as “Rocksteady” and “Girl I’ve Got a Date,“ as well as his own extensive independent discography. Winston formed The Righteous Flames, recorded at the famed Studio One with many of the Reggae producers, who helped the genre become the cultural force it is today. Many are unaware that Bob Marley called on Jarrett's production expertise at certain times for his own recordings at Marley’s own Tuff Gong Studios. Winston is an international treasure and his music is respected globally as a major contributor to the form of Reggae music. This Rock Steady Revue will give your community a rare opportunity to see a living legend in person, making this show go down in history. The Rock Steady Revue will be an uplifting and positive danceable show that celebrates Rock Steady within the history of Reggae music.
